Robert Mellon (Bass-Baritone) is a graduate student at
the Manhattan School of Music and a graduate of the Crane School
of Music with degrees in Music Performance and Music Education.
Robert began receiving voice lessons under his teacher Dr.
Kathleen Allen during his freshmen year of undergraduate studies
and later took lessons from David Pittman-Jennings. In the fall of
2009 Robert will begin his graduate studies in Vocal Performance
under Mignon Dunn.

Robert has performed with the Curso Internacional de Musica
Vocal in Aveiro, Portugal during the summer of 2006.  He has been
a guest soloist with the Crane Symphony Orchestra, Crane Chorus,
and Orchestra of Northern New York.  During his time at Crane he
premiered a Baritone solo with the Crane Symphony Orchestra
entitled Sing and was a part of two world premier productions The
Sailor boy and the Falcon and The Highwayman. Robert has also
had the privilege of taking part in coaching and master classes
with Alex Hurd, Donald George, George Hearn and Stephanie
Blythe.

While working on his undergraduate degree Robert performed with
the Altamura Center to perform
The Merry Widow as Cascada, and
has worked with the Crane Opera Ensemble performing such roles
as Gianni Schicchi in
Gianni Schicchi, Apollo in Egisto, Don Alfonso
in
Cosi Fan Tutte and Ivan in The Sailor Boy and the Falcon. Robert
has also performed the lead role in
The New Moon as Robert
Misson with the Sayville Opera Workshop and as Leporello in
Don
Giovanni
with the Curso Internacional de Musica Vocal in Aveiro,
Portugal.

Robert has been the recipient of awards such as first place in the
Senior Male Northeast Regional Chapter of NATS 2008, First Place in
the New York Finger lakes Chapter of NATS 2007, and a finalists in
the National Opera Associations opera scenes competition in 2009.
Such honors have also been awarded for "Outstanding Junior
Vocalist" (George Blaha award), "Outstanding Performer in the field
of Music Education" (Kenneth Cottrell Endowed Scholarship) and
the Crane Certificate of Merit all awarded at the Crane School of
Music.
