Rebecca Teem (Soprano) returns to New York after a
successful run of performances as Brünnhilde in Die Walküre with
Theater Lübeck. The production has earned much critical acclaim
and Miss Teem was recognized by London's Opera Now magazine
critic Tom Sutcliffe as giving a thrilling performance whose “stocky,
youthful Brünnhilde was wonderfully natural in her acting but seriously
beautiful in her singing. Reminding him of Flagstad in her emotional
tones and of Rita Hunter in the very firm lower register.”
Upon her return to the United States, Miss Teem was engaged by the
Metropolitan Opera to cover the role of Brünnhilde in the first 3
performances in their current cycle of the Otto Schenk production.
Miss Teem comes from Canton GA, and earned her MUBA in voice
from Kennesaw State University, and performed mostly around the
South Eastern United States in roles such as Azucea and the principessa
from Suor Angelica.
After her move to NYC in 2001 she changed to more Dramatic Soprano
roles and performed around the city in concert productions of Tosca,
Aida and Elektra. She is a member of the Thomas Stewart, Evelyn Lear
Emerging Singers Program and has performed in concerts in the
Washington DC area, in 2006 singing the Siegfried Brünnhilde with the
University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra.
Miss Teem currently resides in Lübeck where she will return for this
coming season’s production of Siegfried with Theater Lübeck. The
Ring Cycle will complete in season 2010-2011 with Miss Teem as their
Brünnhilde.
