Carmine Aufiero (Principal Conductor) made his New York
conducting debut with Chelsea Opera's
Suor Angelica in 2004 and has since led
performances of
Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, Amahl and the Night Visitors,
and
Gianni Schicchi in New York and Los Angeles to rave reviews.  Anthony
Tommasini of the New York Times quotes "Aufiero conducted with sweep and
energy…”  A New Jersey native, he became assistant conductor to New
Jersey's Orchestra of St. Peter by the Sea under Alphonse Stephenson in 1999,
conducting at the Festival of the Atlantic, the Trenton War Memorial and in 2001
at Carnegie Hall.  In 2002, Maestro Aufiero conducted the premiere of Kyle
Gann's
Cinderella's Bad Magic in St. Petersburg, Russia.  The following year he
was engaged as pianist and assistant conductor for the American Symphony
Orchestra's production of Janacek's
Osud under Leon Botstein.  Mr. Aufiero
studied orchestral conducting with Harold Farberman and composition, theory,
and improvisation with Robert Abramson.  As guest conductor, Maestro Aufiero
has led performances for Regina Opera (
Die Fledermaus), Espresso Opera
(
Rigoletto), and El Dorado Opera in Los Angeles (Don Giovanni, and Pagliacci).  
From 2004-2007 Mr. Aufiero served as coach and conductor for Martina Arroyo’s
Prelude to Performance Programs.  He made his debut in 2007 as guest
conductor in Dicapo Opera Theater's production of
Beauty and the Beast and
returned for the 2008 season.

In spring 2008 Maestro Aufiero conducted Chelsea Opera’s performances
commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the NYC premiere of Douglas Moore’s
Ballad of Baby Doe.

In 2008 -2009 Maestro Aufiero will conduct the Chekhov based one-act operas
The Bear by William Walton and The Scarf by Lee Hoiby, and Puccini's Suor
Angelica
, all with Chelsea Opera, Don Giovanni, Die Fledermaus, Faust, Tosca,
and The One-Act Opera Festival with Opera Manhattan.
